At the heart of Belen is a library.

The Friends of the Belen Public Library is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with heart—and we heart the Library!

Our organization provides funding and volunteers to support the programs and initiatives of the Belen Public Library. We support the Library’s Summer Reading Programs for children, teens, and adults, as well as a variety of initiatives like technology enhancements for the Teen Hub and nonfiction book acquisitions for the Children’s Room. In addition, we administer the Deborah Graham Memorial Scholarships for local college-bound high school seniors.

To raise funds, Friends volunteers operate Books on Becker, our secondhand bookstore in the downtown Belen Arts District. We have thousands of books for $1 or less. The bookstore is at 513 Becker Avenue and is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Friends of the BPL relies on community support to fulfill its mission. If you too heart the library, here’s how you can help:

  • Shop at Books on Becker, and donate your gently used books and media.
  • Become a Friends member. Membership applications are available at Books on Becker and at the Library’s circulation desk.
