Frank F. Ortega, Councilor

Frank F. Ortega Sr. is a lifetime resident of Belen retired from the Belen Consolidated Schools where he spent nearly 45 years as Maintenance Director. Councilor Ortega spent ten years as Belen Fire Chief with 21 years’ service to the department. He served during the Vietnam era as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1970-73 and Army National Guard from 1974-84 and was honorably discharged from both branches. Councilor Ortega also previously served one term with the Belen City Council from 1992-1996 and was re-elected in 2014 for a second four-year term. Councilor Ortega is still very active in his community serving on several boards and committees.

Councilor Ortega attended Belen High School and received a high school diploma from the New Mexico State Board of Education. In furthering his education, Councilor Ortega received the following attributes: Total Quality Management Certification; Emergency Management Institute Financing; Act Facilities Management College Applied Computer Technologies; T.S.A Maintenance Adm. Certified; and several other licenses and certifications.

As a lifetime public servant, several awards have been bestowed upon Councilor Ortega including the ‘Outstanding New Mexico National Guard Medal’ for assistance during a prison riot in 1980, the ‘Citizen of the Year’ by the Belen Chamber of Commerce in 1986, the Dr. Martin Luther King Award in 1999, the ‘P.S.F.A. BEN LUJAN LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD’ by the State of New Mexico in 2013 and is a lifetime honorary member of the Belen Fire Department.

Councilor Ortega Sr. has been married to Louise B. Ortega for 30 years and has four children, three grandchildren and is a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Councilor Ortega continues to work for a better Belen.
