Frank F. Ortega, Mayor Pro Tem

Frank F. Ortega, Sr. is a lifetime resident of Belen, retired from Belen Consolidated Schools 45 years Maintenance Director, Former Belen Fire Chief of 10 years, also EMT, with 21 years service to the department while also having three previous terms with the Belen City Council,1992-96 ,2014 to 2018, 2018 to 2022 and Presently Serving a 4 year term. Mr. Ortega is also very active in his community, serving on several boards and committees.

Frank is Veteran Vietnam Era from the Armed Forces, USMC (1970-73), Army National Guard(1974-84) and was honorably discharged from both branches.

Mr. Ortega Attended Belen High School and received a High School Diploma from the N.M. State Board of Education (GED). In furthering his education Mr. Ortega also received the following attributes, Total Quality Management Certification, Emergency Management Institute Financing, Act Facilities Management College Applied Computer Technologies, T.S.A Maintenance Adm. Certified and along with several Licenses and Certifications.

As a lifetime public servant, Mr. Ortega has been bestowed several awards for example; The Belen Chamber Award Citizen of the Year(1986), Dr Martin Luther King Award (1999), Citizen of year 2021, Outstanding New Mexico National Guard Medal(Prison Riot 1980), State of New Mexico P.S.F.A. Ben Lujan Lifetime Service Award (2013), and is a lifetime honorary member of the Belen Fire Department.

Mr. Ortega, Sr. is married to Louise B. Ortega for 37 years, has 4 Children, 6 grandchildren and is a Member Of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.

Councilor Ortega continues to work hard for a better Belen.
