City of Belen Participates in 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

The City of Belen was proud to take part in the 2025 New Mexico Law Enforcement Torch Run (NMLETR) for Special Olympics. As part of the statewide 1,600-mile relay, local law enforcement and public safety personnel carried the “Flame of Hope” through Belen on Wednesday, May 28. The Belen leg of the run began at Kicks 66 and ended at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley.

The relay, which began on May 19, concluded in Albuquerque on May 30, where the final leg helped kick off the 2025 Special Olympics New Mexico State Summer Games at the UNM Track & Field and Soccer Complex.

Each year, officers from across New Mexico run and bike through cities, towns, and highways to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics New Mexico. These participants are honored as “Guardians of the Flame of Hope,” advocating for inclusion, empowerment, and support for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

“Law enforcement agencies across our state gather proudly to carry the Flame of Hope torch, rekindling our commitment to raising awareness about the needs and incredible abilities of our Special Olympics athletes,” said LETR State Director Sgt. Travis Spruell of the Farmington Police Department.

We are grateful to all the local agencies and community members who joined us in this meaningful event. Scroll down to enjoy photos and video highlights from Belen’s leg and the Final leg of the Torch Run!
