Belen Police Department Week in Review 8/4 – 8/11

Belen High School Lock Down

On 8/4/2023, at approximately 1pm the Belen High school was placed on lockdown due to a firearm on campus. SROs immediately began an investigation along with school administration. After a lengthy process, a weapon was located on campus. Two students were taken into custody and have been charged with possession of the firearm and the disruption of the educational process.

Interference with Officers, Attempt to Elude

Early Saturday, 8/5/2023 officers came into contact with an ATV who fled from officers. The male suspect, Joseph Aragon, was driving the ATV was later apprehended and charged.

Possession of Controlled Substance – Meth, Resisting an Officer

On 8/5/2023 in the late afternoon, officers came into contact with Sam Olguin who was creating a disturbance at the rail yard. After further investigation, Mr. Olguin was found to be in possession of methamphetamines. Mr. Olguin was taken into custody and booked into the Valencia County Detention Center.

Presidential Visit to Belen, NM

President Joe Biden visited the former Solo Cup factory that is being renovated into a wind tower plant. This is part of the green energy economic plan. The Presidential visit to Belen, NM was a success. We would like to thank the multi-agency operation to ensure the safety of the President as well as the citizens of New Mexico.
