Belen Consolidated Schools’ District Wide Student Art Show: Where Home Is

Kathleen Pickering, Belen Public Library Director, and artist and arts educator Paula Castillo are
excited to announce “WHERE HOME IS,” a BCS District-wide student art exhibit hosted by the
Belen Public Library and curated by the Young Curators Club (YCC) from Infinity High School.

This exhibit will feature student artwork from Belen High School art students instructed by Egan
Ulbricht, Belen Middle School art students instructed by Camellia Termini, Central Elementary’s
art students instructed by Andrea Torrez, Dennis Chavez’ art students instructed by Travis
Simpson, La Merced art students instructed by Alecia Cargile, La Promesa art students
instructed by Laura Wacha, and Rio Grande Elementary art students instructed by Paula Castillo.

“WHERE HOME IS” focuses on work related to themes of belonging, familiarity, and displacement.
Student artists produced a range of work considering home as an archive of matters and feelings,
and everything in between.

A special thank you to Jo’l Moore and Jane Hocking and the Belen Art League for their generous judging of student work. Please join us to celebrate “WHERE HOME IS” Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 pm on April 28th with an awards ceremony honoring our student artists beginning at 6:00 pm. The exhibit will be available for viewing in the Belen Public Library community room and will be up from April 28, 2023, through May16, 2023. Visitors are welcome to see the exhibit during library hours Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm.
