9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The City of Belen invites you to the 22nd Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. This event will take place on Monday, September 11th at 8:45am at the 9/11 Memorial Park which is located at Main Street & Church Street.

Each year, the Belen community gathers on the anniversary of 9/11 to honor the firefighters and police officers that were killed during the initial response, and the fallen warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice post 9/11.

A Day We Will Never Forget

On the morning of September 11th, 2001, terrorists flew two commercial airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, one airliner flew into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and a fourth airliner crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania before it could reach an unknown target in Washington, D.C.

The total loss of lives was 2,977.

9/11 Memorial Park

The park contains a “Freedom Wall” with the names of fallen soldiers from New Mexico or ties to our state as a reminder that our freedom is not free; an 8-foot marble replica of the twin towers; a steel beam from the World Trade Center; an 8-foot wingspan steel sculpture of an Eagle; a first responder’s shovel used at the Pentagon; and a 10,000 pound piece of limestone recovered from the rubble of the Pentagon with a plaque dedicated to the many lives that were tragically taken from us on 9/11/01.
