The Belen Alexander Airport, named after former mayor Neil Alexander, is centrally located just south of the Albuquerque Sun Port outside their busy airspace on the high mesa of Belén New Mexico. The Belén airport provides full services for most all General Aviation aircraft and some small turbo-prop and jet aircraft. The airport is home to more than 50 aircraft.

The Belen Alexander airport was established in 1978, greatly due to a donation by a local family to the City of Belen. Later the city received a grant to build a runway. Shortly afterwards, an Air/Medivac-Ambulance service located their operation to the Belen airport, making it the first commercial operation at the Belén Alexander Airport.
As the airport started to grow, the city felt the need to start an airport commission and hire an airport manager to run the airport. In the meantime the commission developed minimum standards for the airport to operate under.
In 1983 the FBO (Fixed Base Operator) was established and in 1985 Shiloh Aviation established their business for most aircraft services. In the late 1980’s a chapter of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) built a new hangar (which is now New Mexico Aircraft Propeller).
A new pilot’s lounge with kitchenette, shower, and recliners will be available soon. The City of Belen along with the State of New Mexico Aviation Services Department are working jointly to provide this excellent facility. Next year an Automated Weather Observing System AWOS should be in place to provide minute-by-minute weather information to pilots on a 24hour basis.
A crosswind (12-30) runway is planned as soon as FAA funding is available for the land purchase, adding to the versatility and safety of the airport.
Large development areas with utilities for “T” hangars for large aircraft and industrial plants are available around the airport. Access to I-25 is just a mile away, and there are many restaurants and hotels in the City of Belen east of the Belen Alexander Airport.
