Jerah R. Cordova, Mayor

Jerah Cordova

Jerah R. Cordova is the mayor of Belen, New Mexico. He was originally elected to the city councilor on March 2010, to serve a four-year term, and then elected as mayor in March 2014.

Mayor Cordova also works full-time as the program manager for multiple federal contracts at ADC LTD NM, an Albuquerque security and investigations firm. He is also an investigator working on behalf of the United States Department of Homeland Security, the United States Department of Defense, and the Social Security Administration.

Before becoming a city councilor, Mayor Cordova worked as a local small business owner, running a successful Valencia County news and information publication called Valencia Voices. The publication later became Better Belen, an open government website. Mayor Cordova graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, in 2006.

While in college, Mayor Cordova worked with former Congresswoman Heather Wilson -- who is now Secretary of the Air Force -- gave history tours of the Capitol Building, and spent one semester digging around the United States National Archives for documents about World War II atomic bomb research in New Mexico.

As the youngest mayor in New Mexico, Mayor Cordova appreciates the opportunity to work in Belen, and through his dedication to Belen, he hopes to bring a stronger economy and better quality of life to the city where he was born and raised.
