Come celebrate Women’s History Month and the Suffragette Movement at the Belen Harvey House Museum on Saturday, March 25. This multimedia event will run from 2 to 4 p.m.
The two-hour celebration will feature a short film “Forward Into Light,” songs of suffragettes by local musician Susanna Gilbert, two special readings and the Harvey House Players presenting “the Harvey Girls,” a Readers’ Theater. Reception and high tea will also be part of the afternoons’ event.
“Forward Into Light” is a documentary about Inez Milholland, the voice of suffrage in the early 20th Century. An advocate for gender equality, pacifism, racial justice, unions and free speech, she died from exhaustion with her cross-country speaking tours. Falling at the podium, her last sentence to the crowd was “President Wilson, how long must women wait for liberty?”
Admission is free; please call ahead to guarantee a seat.
